Charcoal homework assignment for class.
It's drawn from a homework, and the original is slightly shy of 18"X24"
crazyness. Took between 10 and 15 hours to complete, I guess, but I feel a lot more... adept at charcoal now. (I can still use more practice)
I feel, also, like I could finally say 'Yeah" if someone asks if I can do portraiture.
WHO IS THIS GUY!? He reminds me of Albert Einstein, but since it as a homework assignment, I don't know where the source photo came from.
Izzat a Hawaii shirt he's wearing? xD Excellent job with making full use of the value range; it makes me jealous. I probably would have taken much longer to finish this-- definitely more than three sessions, if I was the one doing this kind of work. |);

Don't try to keep thinking pessimistic thoughts. You will run out.
I think it's a Hawaiian shirt, but it was dark in the image, so I can't say for sure

I'm growing to like it a lot more. I used to absolutely hate it, but really, it just requires the proper practice and technique understanding

Oh, wow. I've always found charcoal so difficult to work with, but you've displayed such fine control of the medium here, I'm quite envious! THe amount of detail you've worked into this piece is amazing - I just love all the wrinkles in his skin, and the leathery feel to it, which is just how you'd imagine it to be.
This piece really makes me miss art class. being pushed to try new things is so good for you, and without that motivation it's all too easy to restrict yourself to things you're familliar with drawing, within your 'comfort zone' - this is precisely my problem. you must have a hell of a lot of talent if you can whip out a piece this good using an unfamiliar medium, not to mention when it's of an unfamiliar subject.

Shark finning to me is worse than the holocaust.....except it's a holocaust that happens everyday

You're just jealous because the voices only talk to me.
